Last week's pie resulted in enough leftover cherries to throw together another pie. The market today did not offer rhubarb, so I picked up a bunch of blackberries.

Any blogger knows the impulse of leaving some mark in the world. A few years ago this was manifested in me with the urge to have a Ultimate disk made up with a design of mine. I was playing with 12 Fluid Ounces at that time, so the rationale was to make a disk for the team. Here is how it turned out:

We had a pleasant time tonight at the Newton Open Studios party.
My closet door is becoming harder to get closed. Inside and sprawling out in to the bedroom are way too many T-shirts, many from years of playing in the BUDA Hat Leagues. So, as a project, I dive in to get a count.
The New Yorker last page has been running a cartoon caption contest since sometime early May, late April (I can not put my hands on the exact issue, is it so important that I actually get out of my chair?).
I will say that I miss the range and variety of the more free form last pages that preceeded this contest. I haven't gotten any satisfaction at trying to supply my own caption. And I haven't found the choice of three submitted captions as the cartoon advances a week preferrable to the one inevitable caption found with all the other drawings in the magazine.
Sunday's pie plate was very quickly emptied and washed. Lemon meringue makes a very good summer pie. Go with the season. At the supermarket, I see rhubarb on the shelf; it is time to make a strawberry rhubarb pie.

We had a very nice time today at Boston's Museum of Fine Arts, taking in the Ralph Lauren car collection. For dessert after lunch, we took in the Quilts of Gee's Bend. Good stuff!
Why Pie Bee? Because all the good names are taken, the obvious vanity name long ago snapped up by Houghton Mifflin. Various elaborations all seemed to be claimed. So, something random but simple and easy to communicate seemed the next best thing.
"Pie" is pie. I like pie.
"Bee" refers to Frisbee. I started with a red Pluto Platter back in the 50's and still participate in Ultimate Frisbee.
Simple enough?
