12 Fluid Ounces disk

Any blogger knows the impulse of leaving some mark in the world. A few years ago this was manifested in me with the urge to have a Ultimate disk made up with a design of mine. I was playing with 12 Fluid Ounces at that time, so the rationale was to make a disk for the team. Here is how it turned out:

12 Fl Oz * Boston Ultimate Disc Alliance

I like how this disk turned out, but a goodly proportion of the players who see this are baffled by the image. It comes from a picture I took of a Fisher Price children's pull toy: a mother duck leading her three children. This was my childhood toy; I am told I spent many happy hours pulling this around home when I learned first to walk.

Discraft is the official and preferred disk for Ultimate. Discraft will make up custom designs for you if you follow their directions needed to satisfy the realities of plasic. You need to work in just one, two, or three colors.

At the time I made this disc, the minimum order for three colors was 200 discs. Too much for me, so working in Photoshop and LView, I made up the necessary images and had 100 discs made up. After giving out discs to team members and family, I still have maybe 50 discs left.

I hope this illuminates the mystery image for anyone who wondered what the heck that thing is. It helps to squint.
