Mio everywhere

Mio accompanied Jen & Jordi on a visit a week ago. He wheedled his way into a boost to on top of the refrigerator. From there it was a quick hop up to the high window above. "I'm king of the world!" It only took a little coaxing to get Mio down, but only because he was ready.

The More Things Stay the Same

We were renting in Waltham when Karen was pregnant with Jen. That fall, with the big day approaching, you would find me in the basement workshop there, listening to Duane Ingalls Glasscock on the radio and making sawdust out of a stack of pine boards. Karen's side of things had an excellent outcome, and the piece of furniture known as the changing table, while not elegant, served us for quite some time.

The changing table has passed on to the new generation. It needs to be spiffed up to match the new nursery. So today, I was in the basement here, again butchering the wood I thought I was done with. A few taps of my rubber mallet and the glue holding the door's stiles and rails together let go. The fabric was torn from the backing plywood. A bit of sanding and scraping, and the plywood is ready for some fresh material. That will come soon. No rush. After all, it wasn't quite finished when Jen was born.

Celtics 90, Pistons 78

For Christmas, Jen & Jordi gave us the very nice gift of two tickets to tonight's Celtics' game in the (TD Banknorth) Garden. The Celtics have been having a great year with the addition of Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen. All the Celts put on a good show against Detroit, getting an early 10+ point lead in the first quarter. That proved to be the margin at the end, although Detroit had the score tied at the end of the 3rd when some of the Celtics' first string was resting on the bench.

This was a tough ticket with two of the leagues' top teams. Jen did good getting these tickets, and I hope I don't sound like I'm checking the horse's mouth, but we were in the very last row of the balcony. It is a long way down. We had a great time, even if today's modern show time extras have Red's coffin's rotisserie set on eleven.
