The More Things Stay the Same

We were renting in Waltham when Karen was pregnant with Jen. That fall, with the big day approaching, you would find me in the basement workshop there, listening to Duane Ingalls Glasscock on the radio and making sawdust out of a stack of pine boards. Karen's side of things had an excellent outcome, and the piece of furniture known as the changing table, while not elegant, served us for quite some time.

The changing table has passed on to the new generation. It needs to be spiffed up to match the new nursery. So today, I was in the basement here, again butchering the wood I thought I was done with. A few taps of my rubber mallet and the glue holding the door's stiles and rails together let go. The fabric was torn from the backing plywood. A bit of sanding and scraping, and the plywood is ready for some fresh material. That will come soon. No rush. After all, it wasn't quite finished when Jen was born.
