It is art

Karen and I went away for an overnight in the Berkshires this weekend. Our destination was Picasso Looks at Degas at the Clark Art Institute. Bob and Sheila joined us on the visit. The banner behind mentions the Juan Muñoz exhibit. That exhibit was in another building and the weather and age conspired to limit us to the main attraction.

The exhibit is pretty darn good, although I wondered how far they stretched the theme. If you have hundreds of paintings and sculptures from two artists, can't you always find some that look suspiciously alike? Of course, Picasso's quote about copying and stealing makes such doubts hard to maintain. If you like Picasso or Degas or both, be sure to pay a visit.

On Sunday we headed back after a visit first to Mass MOCA. Lots of good stuff to see there too. We especially like the Material World: Sculpture to Environment and Sol LeWitt: A Wall Drawing Retrospective.

Who taught her that, Grandma?

The water wasn't really that cold, but still, a splash will get your attention.

My daughter, and her daughter's father, and his daughter came by for our first "get into the pool" on Father's Day. Lots of fun!

Simple tarts

Josie, Jordi, and Jen came by to spend the morning and celebrate my birthday. We had a simple, easy day, just enjoying breakfast and lunch with some hanging out in between. The dessert project was inspired by a foodie blog I googled across, La Tartine Gourmande, and by the knowledge I had some puff pastry, way past its expiration date, in the freezer.

Josie helped run the apples through the apple machine, lay out the apples on the defrosted puff pastry, and sprinkle on the brown sugar on top. All that effort and the part she enjoyed most was the ice cream. Maybe we will have to get out the ice cream maker next time to make that into a chore too?
